Mariana Ventura Cruz is daughter to former priest Ramiro Ventura and Lucía Cruz. However, she lived most of her life with only her mother until she was kidnapped by a demon which killed Lucía.

Kidnapped by a demon[]
One day, Mariana was being put to bed by her mother, Lucía when she heard a noise. Her mother told her monsters did not exist, and that the noise was probably nothing. However, Mariana soon became worried when she heard her mom struggling in a fight. She stayed in her room due to her mother's orders, going into her closet. Lucía pushed the demon and asked Mariana if she was okay, but she was thrown out the window as well. Defenseless, Mariana was taken away by the demon to an underground location. She called for help and tried using her cell phone, but got no signal.
She soon found she could climb out and found herself deep in the woods. As she walked, she found herself face to face with the demon, so she started to run until she found a place she could hide. She stayed there until a woman found her and comforted her, telling the young girl she could go to her home.
Meeting Mamá Chabela[]
As Mariana slept, she woke suddenly to nightmares of the demon attacking her an her mother again. Once Lorenzo, a kid in the home she was at told Mamá Chabela the young girl had woken. Mariana got to know Mamá Chabela and the other people in the house, which included Lorenzo, Sebas, and Wences. She was also told by Mamá Chabela that the other kids had also been kidnapped by the demon. Soon after, Mariana took a shower and was subsequently combed by her hostess, starting to cry as she realized she would not see her mother again. She was comforted by Mamá Chabela and made laugh when she was told a joke. A few hours later, as Mamá Chabela read them a story, the demon showed up. Mariana and the boys hid while Mamá Chabela managed to send him away.
